Period pain is the pain often experienced by women during the menstrual cycle. It may/may not be caused by another condition. It is characterized usually having too many prostaglandins, described as chemicals that the uterus makes. These chemicals make the muscles of uterus strengthen and relax, and this causes the cramps. Period pains which are also known as menstrual pain happen in the stomach and pelvic region of women. To reduce this, pain relief tablets are used which are sold under various brand names. On a general note, more than half of women who menstruate have pain and cramps during their period. The term dysmenorrhea is used to describe the pain and cramps which is identified later if chronic.
